Twisting your healing piercings is never a good idea. Let's go back to the start of this issue back in the nineties when we visited mall kiosks, Wal-marts and Claires to get our lobes pierced with butterfly back earrings and guns......
"Be sure to twist your earrings every day!" the barely trained associate would say as we left with our bloody ears and alcohol cleaning solution.
Gone are the days of such uneducated piercings! Piercings today should be performed by professionals with hollow needles and implant grade jewelry, and cleaned with a simple saline solution. Back in the day we did not know the damage of the gun, bad piercing materials, and uneducated 'piercers'. The idea that you should twist your piercings is from the dark ages, and this advice was given because butterfly backed earrings were often much too tight and did not allow room for swelling during the healing process. If you didn't turn the earrings, you ran the risk of your skin growing over the back! GROSS!
Piercings performed by professionals will allow your piercing room to comfortably swell. If you start twisting it, there are a lot of less than ideal things that will happen.
Twisting the piercing breaks the newly forming flesh! Think of this as ripping off a scab on a healing wound. How will it ever heal if you are constantly removing the necessary healing materials?
Furthermore, any time you touch your piercing you will deposit nasty bacteria from your fingers all on the piercing. Don't believe me? Think back to that elementary school experiment with the basketball and black light.... Yeah, nasty! Don't touch your healing piercings unless you have CLEAN disinfected hands!
Twisting your piercing can also cause it to become irritated, inflamed, and could cause the piercing to migrate or heal crooked!
Please pass on this message so people will stop harming their beautiful new piercings by twisting them. You should follow the simple aftercare advice: LITHA. Leave it the hell alone! Let your body do it's thing and heal up the hole you put in it 😊
