Tea tree oil is anti-fungal, antiseptic and antimicrobial which makes it a wonderful addition to your aftercare routine.
Tea tree oil is known for it's wound-healing capabilities! It may reduce any bumps, ease redness and/or irritation, prevent any fungal infection, and prevent the growth of keloids or other scar tissue around the piercing.
There are lots of success stories about piercing bumps where tea tree oil was used to get rid of them!
It is also very easy to use. Your first option is to dilute it with a carrier oil and put a drop of the mixture on the piercing as a spot treatment. This is good for surface piercings or any other piercing where you can dab on the mixture with a cotton ball. Be sure to be careful not to bump your piercing while doing this! You can also add the tea tree oil into your saline soak/rinse! This is a great way to use it as it really boosts the healing power of your soak. Just add a few drops of tea tree oil into your home made saline soak and follow the directions in our Piercing Aftercare Blog. If you are using NeilMed Wound Wash or another pre-packaged saline spray you will need to do the spot treatments with tea tree oil as you cannot add the oil into your bottle of saline.
I do want to note that you first need to test a little bit of diluted tea tree oil on another part of your body to make sure you don't have any negative reactions to the oil. Undiluted, the tea tree oil can cause irritation and in extreme cases, blistering.
Tea tree oil will also help with inflamed piercings by bringing the swelling down!
It is also important that you continue your 2x daily saline soak/rinse while using the tea tree oil, as tea tree oil alone will not be adequate aftercare.
That's all for this week! I hope you guys find this helpful.
Until Next Week,
Kourtney 🖤
