Did you know that stress can make your piercing heal more slowly? 🤔
Psychological stress can increase your healing time by 25% to be exact! The reason why is because when you mentally stress out and have racing thoughts, your body produces the stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol interferes with the activities that are important for wound healing, causing the process to slow down quite a lot!
Long term stress is overall very unhealthy for your body, so if you regularly experience stress for any reason (as many of us do on a daily basis) it can be very beneficial to your overall physical and mental health to develop a strategy to organically lower your stress.
One way to do this is through breath work or meditation! Lowering your resting heart rate and slowing your thought stream causes cortisol to stop being released, bringing greater balance and overall health to your body. Try focusing only on deeply breathing for 5-15 minutes per day, and taking 5-10 deep breaths any time you notice that you are stressed throughout the day.
With consistent practices to reduce stress, you can be sure that stress is not causing your piercing to take longer to heal!
Until next time,
