Piercings are a great addition to your style, and can really express who you are! Many people seem to think that once the piercing is healed their work is done, however that is not the case!
Your skin secretes fluids naturally, and since your jewelry will be over your piercing hole this fluid can build up on/around your jewelry. Sometimes you will be able to see it around the edges of smaller jewelry, but if your jewelry has a large diameter you likely won't see the build up on the back of your jewelry! This will even happen with your piercings that have been healed for a really long time. In addition to naturally secreted fluids, things like hair or fuzz can get caught around your jewelry.
This build up can be damaging to your jewelry, and can harbor nasty bacteria which may cause flare ups in your piercings. Once every one or two months you should remove your jewelry for a good cleaning!
Most people don't have surgical grade sterilization tools at their disposal, but no worries. You can simply get some hot water running in a small bowl and mix in some antibacterial hand soap. Wash your jewelry very well! Rinse with warm water then dry your jewelry in a paper towel. You'll be delighted at how shiny your jewelry is again! Next refill your bowl with warm water & soap. Use your fingertips or a q-tip to wash all of your piercing holes on either side. Rinse your ears and then reapply your jewelry!
After this process is done, you will definitely be in love with your piercings all over again. You'll have clean shiny jewelry and happy feeling piercings! ✨
Cleaning your jewelry & piercings is an integral part of being a piercing lover. The more piercings you have the more time this process will consume, but it is well worth it!
I hope this was a good read for you all,
Until next time,
