We've been getting some inquiries about new piercing care in the Summertime! This Q&A style blog should give you all the do's and dont's that you will need this summer!
Summer means more activities, which means more opportunities for your piercing to be in less than ideal conditions! What are those conditions?
Q: Does being outside affect my piercing?
A: The summertime sun can be harsh, and will obviously make you sweat if you stay outside for a long amount of time. With sweat comes more natural body oils, which means you'll want to clean your healing piercing more often. Furthermore, if you use sunscreen you will need to be sure you thoroughly wash your piercings as soon as you get out of the sun to prevent any irritation.
Q: Can I swim in the pool with a new piercing?
A: If it is a public pool, you shouldn't put your fresh piercing in the water. There are too many possible bacteria that could end up getting in your piercing! However, if the pool is privately owned or is your families you will most likely be able to swim with no problem. Just be sure to wash your piercing after swimming to remove any chemicals! Chlorine pools are drying to piercings, but salt water pools are actually beneficial for healing! That brings us to out next question...
Q: Can I swim at the beach with a new piercing?
A: I would absolutely not swim in the ocean with any type of open wound. With all of the marine life, trash, and other contaminants the water is not safe for open wounds.
Q: Is partying bad for my piercing?
A: Partying itself is not bad for your piercing, but it is important to note that drinking alcohol excessively can slow the healing process.
Q: Are there any other tips for healing piercings in the summer?
A: Most people experience some sort of schedule change in the summer! Be sure you keep up with your aftercare through any changes. If you go on vacation take a can of your favorite saline spray so you can always clean your piercing!
If you like to play sports such as volleyball in the summer take extra care to avoid getting your piercing hit or fallen on!
With these tips you should be well equipped to take on any summer activities with confidence! 😊
