I've seen so many comments lately on our Instagram where someone wants a piercing, but is scared to get it! I always encourage them to go for it, but sometimes that is not enough. Here are a few tried and true tactics to help you overcome your fear of getting a new piercing!
‣ Plan ahead! Knowing exactly what you want when you go into the shop is a big step towards not bailing when its your turn to get pierced. On top of that, gather a collection of inspiration pictures of that piercing! If you're feeling scared, refer to those pictures to remember just how cute it will look when you're finished, and be reassured that it will be worth the little bit of pain to get there! We wax our eyebrows because it looks nice, and I am certain that hurts more than a piercing.
‣ Researching your piercer is one of the very best things you can do to ease your fear! Find a reputable piercer who is knowledgeable, professional, and will answer any questions you may have. A pro will be sure that you feel relaxed and calm before the piercing and will be able to comfort you throughout.
‣ Take a supportive friend with you! If you have a friend who is not scared and wants a piercing, take them with you and let them go first so you can see how quick and easy the process is. You'll feel more inclined to handle the little bit of pain once you see how cute their new adornment is!
‣ Trust your aftercare! Don't let images on the internet of nasty piercings with bumps scare you away. You will more than likely not have any issues if your aftercare is on point!!
‣ Look at all of the adorable jewelry options for the piercing you want and get excited about all of the possibilities! Body jewelry is constantly changing and evolving, so you will always find new jewelry to fall in love with.
✕ DO NOT watch piercing videos online! Many people who post those videos are NOT professionals, and they may do things wrong in the video that could cause you to be even more afraid! This is the importance of a professional piercer.
‣ Know that the absolute worse case scenario (if you went with a clean, pro piercer) is only that you have to take your jewelry out and let the piercing close. that is nothing major! At least you gave it a try and went for it instead of regretting NOT getting the piercing when you're older! If you take great care of your piercing, you probably won't even have to worry about anything at all.
All in all, piercings should not be scary! They're something you are choosing to do with your body as art, and you should totally be proud of that.
Until Next Week,
Kourtney 🖤
